At the One Planet Summit convened on 12 December 2017 by Emmanuel Macron in Paris and attended by 27 heads of state, 91 French companies, including Arkema, deliver an assessment of their investments since the historic agreement reached at the 21st Conference of the Parties on climate change held in Paris in 2015. By signing a new agreement, they now reaffirm their commitment to a low carbon industry and economy and to joining forces in changing course to initiate a drastic cut in greenhouse gas emissions around the world.
Quentin Vlamynck, the young skipper of Arkema 3, crossed the finish line of the second leg of the race Mini-Transat La Boulangère race at 11:23 (French time), in Le Marin (Martinique). He came in 6th after 14 days, 21 hours, 15 minutes and 20 seconds at sea. A challenging crossing on board an extremely innovative machine.
On 16 November at 8.49 am (French time), Lalou Roucayrol and Alex Pella crossed the finish line of the Transat Jacques Vabre in Salvador de Bahia (Brazil) as winners in the Multi50 category. After sailing from Le Havre on 5 November, the Arkema pair covered the course’s 4,350 theoretical miles in 10 days 19 hours 14 minutes and 19 seconds, averaging a speed of 16.81 knots. An outstanding performance for these skippers who managed to overcome both technical and physical hurdles to ultimately claim victory. Lalou and Alex also relied on the invaluable support of Karine Fauconnier who was in charge of routing from land.

Quentin Vlamynck seized a 14th place in the first leg of the Mini Transat La Boulangère, in the prototype category. Arkema will increase fluoropolymer (Kynar® PVDF) capacity at its Calvert City plant in the United States by some 20%. The expansion is fueled by strong demand in the new energies and water management markets as well as in more traditional applications (chemical process industry and high performance cables). In line with the strategy presented at its recent Capital Markets Day, this investment, scheduled to start mid-2018, further supports Arkema’s ambition to accelerate the development of its advanced materials, one of the key pillars of its future growth.

With two major races scheduled at the end of 2017, Team Arkema Lalou Multi is stepping up its preparation! The Arkema site in Crosby, Texas has been shut-down since Friday 25 August. The site anticipated the storm, and safely shut down all operations before hurricane landfall. The facility has had extraordinary levels of rain, receiving approximately 40 inches by Monday 28 August afternoon. The site has been heavily flooded and without electric service. Local officials had established an evacuation zone in an area 1.5 miles from our plant.
At approximately 2 a.m. CDT, we were notified by the Harris County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) of two explosions and black smoke coming from the Arkema Inc. plant in Crosby, Texas. After sustaining an injury during a training session on board the trimaran Arkema Multi50, Karine Fauconnier is not able to take part in the Transat Jacques Vabre 2017 race. Hence Alex Pella will take her place as co-skipper alongside Lalou Roucayrol.
The new Neophil™ PVDF hollow fiber ultrafiltration membranes have been granted NSF/ANSI 61 certification for drinking water production. This certification will speed up the commercial development of this membrane technology developed jointly by Arkema and Polymem in the global drinking water market growing by 10 % yearly.

Arkema announces the acquisition by Bostik of CMP Specialty Products, the flooring and floor preparation business of US based specialist CGM. This business, which generated U$15 million sales in 2016, offers strong synergies with Bostik. Thierry Le Hénaff, Arkema Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, inaugurates the new specialty molecular sieve capacity at the Honfleur plant today. In 2016, Karine joined Team Arkema Lalou Multi as weather router in the Transat, before acting as navigator in the Transat Québec - St Malo, which was to be a winning race for the Multi50 Arkema trimaran. This collaboration now continues with Lalou and Karine making up a fighting mixed double-handed crew that benefits from unique multihull experience!
Arkema recently doubled the capacity of their Kepstan® PEKK (Poly-Ether-Ketone-Ketone) product line in France and confirms its future investment at its Mobile site (Alabama, United States) in a world-scale PEKK plant expected to come on stream in the second half of 2018.

Arkema launches a new website for its three flagship polymer families – Kynar® fluoropolymers, Pebax® thermoplastic elastomers, and Rilsan® high performance polyamides. The website, focused on “extreme materials”, aims to optimize the user experience with rich content and intuitive navigation.
